That was more fun than I've had in AGES!
Lara and Heather are awesome and we had a great time. We got to the hotel about the same time, had to wait to check in so we went off for lunch first. We had Italian at a neat little place by St. Martha's, then went exploring. We found out that the old town isn't actually that big so we didn't bother with tram tickets or anything. We saw the memorial stone at the site of the old synagogue that was destroyed. Saw the Fountain of Virtues, the Beautiful Fountain and "The Ugly Fountain". We hit the castle, strolled the gardens a bit and climbed up to the top of the tower (lots and lots of steps) and then headed back down. Noted the site of the dungeon tours (the old Rathaus) and picked up a tour guide for it. And then we strolled back to the hotel via the bakery (Heather's Bday Pastry Breakfast) to check in and get settled into our room.
After we recovered a bit we went on a quest for dinner. There was supposedly a McD's "5 min" away but the arrow pointed towards a gated off dead end lot between some buildings. We set off to find it or anything else that might be close by and got the crap scared out of us by a ninja bicyclist. We managed to find a "sketchy" little pizza joint and had dinner there by the lake. Lara almost got run over by a cranky German woman on a bike on the way back. Then there was the spider tunnel. *shudders* We got back to the hotel unscathed and settled in for the night with licorice, chocolate and chatting.
The next morning we all got up after the cleaning staff knocked at the door surprisingly early. Got ready to face the day with a pastry feast and then packed up and checked out. We were planning to hit the dungeons after stopping at Mr. Bleck's for coffee but we ended up spending close to 2 hours in the coffee shop hanging out and decided to go see some of the rest of the old town instead. We went into St. Martha's and St. Jakob's, saw the White Tower and the Marriage Merry-go-round Fountain (which uh, was done by someone who obviously should not have ever gotten married), saw St. Elizabeth's and hit KFC for lunch. KFC, y'all. I almost cried it was so good. <3
Then we headed back to the hotel and picked up our cars and headed out. I managed to make it to the Autobahn and then got on the wrong one. I almost nailed a mofo who jumped from the acceleration lane getting on the Autobahn all the way into the far left lane where I was driving. Had some issues driving in the city, and was generally cranky. Then Heather's husband called and uh ... I thought it was Jens so I snapped at him pretty hard and hung up because I was driving and he should know better to call me while I'm driving. After I figured out it wasn't Jens I was pretty mortified. I tried calling the number back and it said the number was unassigned. So when he called back I answered and apologized profusely. Heather and Lara were supposed to pick him up from work and hadn't gotten there yet so since my number was the only one he had he was calling to see when we all left. They got there shortly after that so everyone made it home safely.
That's most of it I think, I know I'm leaving out a few things but I'll put them in as I remember them. :-) It was an AWESOME trip!
