How many weeks are you? 28w0d
How are you feeling? Tired, hungry, generally cranky.
Any medical appointments; how did they go? Had an one with my OB/GYN, Sam is measuring a few days larger fairly consistently. He also apparently enjoys staring at my spine so we haven't been able to get good pics of him the past few appointments. Then there was the Tylenol (Paracetamol for folks over here) Saga that is still going on. (Read about this at the bottom.) I was referred to an Orthopedic Doc, who is also a cranky pregnant woman, who explained my hip pain to me and then got a second opinion from her OB/GYN about my Tylenol usage.
Any medical appointments coming up? Friday the 17th (Orthopedic Doc) and Thursday the 30th (OB/GYN)
Anything new happening? My mom is trying to organize an online Baby Shower for me, which should be fun.
Pictures? Nada.
Tylenol Saga: I've been having bad hip pain at night for some time now. I've been taking Tylenol pretty regularly for it. I mentioned this to my OB/GYN and he got upset about me using Tylenol regularly, saying it would damage the baby's kidneys. He told me to stop. Stopping results in unbearable pain and me not being able to sleep.
He prescribed a topical gel of Diclofenac-Natrium, which has warnings about use in the 3rd trimester. I was supposed to use this only once a night as opposed to the "3 times daily" instructions. I used it once against my better judgement. It had no effect pain-wise, which was fully expected by my Doc. *twitches*
When I pointed out that I NEED TO BE ABLE TO SLEEP I was referred to the Orthopedic Doc.* I didn't have high hopes but I was pleasantly surprised. She basically said "That's crap, taking Tylenol is all you really can do." She pulled out one of those rolling Biology class skeletons and showed me exactly what was going on with my hips and why they hurt at night. She also did a physical 'lay down and we'll see if it hurts when I move your legs around' check.
She also called her OB/GYN and got a second opinion on the daily Tylenol usage. I now have a piece of paper to give my OB/GYN that says I can take up to 1000mg (2 extra strength Tylenol) a day.
I have to go back for a routine follow-up on Friday apparently, which will probably address whatever concerns my OB/GYN will call and raise with them.
* On the referral he wrote that I was ABUSING PARACETAMOL. I was really, really pissed about that and had to explain it to the Orthopedic Doc. MAX 2 A NIGHT IS NOT ABUSING IT MKAY.
