Welcome to the land of Holy FUCK it's SNOWING ALREADY.

This has prompted Jens and I to discuss what season it is. I say, "if it's snowing it's winter." He says, "winter doesn't start until December 21st."

Therefore, I give you a poll.

I am being misquoted here. I said "Technically, it's not winter until December 21st.". I stand by my claim that it is winter when I say it is. And it isn't yet, not just because of a little snow that doesn't even stick to the ground.

December 21st is called midwinter. So, you mean, midwinter is in fact not mid winter, but the start thereof? :P

For what it's worth, I call it winter solstice.

If midwinter was in the middle of winter, winter would have to start in early October. It would occupy almost half the year and hardly leave any room for spring, summer and fall. And while Jenn may agree on that, that's not how it works.

If November, December and January are winter, mid-December is mid-winter.

If you decide to add another week to the equation, to force the astronomical event to be exactly the historical approximate time name given to it by a cultural tradition dictating that the winter solstice comes in the dead of winter, then the last week of October is winter and so is the first week of February. But, that's only if we're anal about it.

I don't really have an opinion on the subject, but love that you used Whiskey Tango Foxtrot in your subject line. Man people spell stuff out for me in army all the time.
